Gypsum Clay Breaker Natural Agricultural Clay Soil Improver (Calcium Sulphate)
Gypsum Clay Breaker is the ideal solution for hard subsoils in the garden. In a new or established garden there is often a layer of clay or hard subsoil. This type of soil creates poor drainage, soggy soil and soil compaction.
The main purpose of Gypsum is to make the small particles in clay soil join together into larger particles (like that of a sandy soil). This enables better water penetration and retention, as well as better root penetration. In turn, this also enables better nutrient uptake and usage by the plants.
Gypsum has a slow release formula that is also useful for repairing soil that has been damaged through compaction, either from heavy stock, machinery, in the recovery of sub-soils exposed by earth movement or in soils affected by salinity. Because it reduces salt levels in soil, it is effective in coastal and arid regions. One of the earliest known fertilisers, it’s source of calcium and Sulphur provide plants with the essential nutrient they need.
One of the main uses of Gypsum is to remove excess sodium from the soil and add calcium. A soil analysis is helpful in determining if you need to apply Gypsum as a soil amendment. Additional benefits are a reduction in crusting, improved water run-off and erosion control, assisting in seedling emergence, more workable soils, and better percolation.
